Court Jails Man 6 Months for Failing to Declare £8,020 and $704 At Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos
Lagos Federal High Court Judge Yellim Bogoro sentenced businessman Agudosi Okechukwu to six months imprisonment (or a N200,000 fine per count) for failing to declare £8,020 and $704 to the Nigerian Customs Service at Lagos Airport in December 2024.
According to the court, tyhe defendant committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 3(5) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Okechukwu pleaded guilty to two money laundering charges brought by the EFCC.
Customs arrested him for not declaring the full amount (£15,020 and $704, declaring only £7,000), which he claimed was for transporting his deceased brother's body.
Judge Bogoro also ordered the forfeiture of the undeclared funds to the federal government.
