Davido calls for the release of detained Nigerian social activist - VeryDarkMan (VDM)
Afrobeat superstar, Davido has lent his support to the calls to free VeryDarkMan (VDM), a Nigerian social media influencer arrested by the EFCC on May 2, 2025. The EFCC alleged VDM was involved in cyberstalking. This is coming after VDM’s role in advocating for the masses and exposing corruption, which resonates with Davido’s own philanthropy.
It is alleged the arrest occurred inside a GTBank branch after VDM complained about unauthorized deductions from his mother's bank account withthe bank. The arrest has sparked both online and offline protests with critics like lawyer Deji Adeyanju and activist Omoyele Sowore arguing it’s an attempt to silence VDM for accusing the EFCC of corruption.
The #FreeVDM hashtag has gained traction on social platforms since.
