Controversy Erupts Over Nigeria's De-Radicalisation Program for Ex-Boko Haram Terrorists - What about their victims - people ask?
News is that about 390 former Boko Haram members graduated from a de-radicalisation program in Gombe state, aimed at reintegrating them into society with ₦50k and provisions like rice and oil to prevent a return to crime.
Boko Haram, a jihadist group founded in 2002, has killed over 35,000 and displaced 2.3 million since 2009, rejecting Western education in pursuit of an Islamic state. This initiative has sparked outrage, with many on X highlighting the lack of justice for victims—orphans, widows, and those in IDP camps.
A 2021 International Crisis Group report also warns that such programs often fail without community support, risking further unrest.

I hope this is not setting a dangerous precedent. I hope its not sending a message that people can do whatever they like and then get pardoned and even given money by the govt years down the line. Boko Haram destroyed many lives. What program has the Nigerian government set up to help the thousands of Boko Haram victims? This is the Nigerian government, once again, placing the interests of some corrupt politicians over the needs of the people - because you convince me someone, somewhere is not making money out of this so called "program"?
